Singapore Airshow 2018 - Asia's Largest Aerospace and Defence Event

Singapore Airshow Aviation Leadership Summit

The Singapore Airshow Aviation Leadership Summit is the only event of its kind in the industry that brings together high-level participants from regulators, the private sector, government and airline operators to address a wide range of hot topics from environment liberalisation and security challenges to salient strategic trends the region faces.

Going into its 6th edition, the upcoming Singapore Airshow Aviation Leadership Summit 2018 is a summit that focuses on the key issues affecting commercial aviation.

Reimagining Aviation's Future

Aviation is expanding exponentially. New technology and business models are making aviation more affordable and convenient. More people will have the opportunity for air travel. However, there are also storm clouds in the horizon. Airspace congestion is becoming more common, whilst the momentum for liberalisation has slowed. Many states are facing challenges for their infrastructure and regulatory systems to keep up with the pace of growth.

How can we unlock the full value that aviation brings to enable economic growth, business opportunities and improve lives? What choices do we have to make today to create the right pathways for a more sustainable and brighter future for aviation?

Leadership Panel Unlocking Aviation’s Potential; What Do We Need To Do?
Supersonic travel. Commercial space flights. Autonomous aircraft. Artificial intelligence. The rapid pace of technology and innovation in the aviation industry is presenting many opportunities but also posing challenges to businesses and regulators. How can they cope? Where will the weight of growth be for the aviation industry - core markets or emerging markets? And as more people travel, the impetus for more regulation increases. How should international aviation respond to such challenges? What needs to be defended and what ought to change? Will aviation be able to deliver its full potential in the face of such challenges?
Session 1 The Next Generation of Aircraft Technologies
The aviation industry is at the cusp of its next technological revolution. New aircraft and engines are enabling more cities to be connected and transforming the aviation industry. Future emerging technologies offer even more exciting possibilities, such as ultra-long range travel, supersonic aircraft, and emissions-free engines. Nonetheless, doubts persist as to whether these technologies will be commercially viable. Which are the technologies which are likely to make the greatest impact to the aviation sector? How should airlines cope with the disruption that the new technologies bring?
Session 2 The Airline Industry: What's Beyond the Horizon
The success of Low Cost Carriers (LCCs) have driven much of the growth in air travel in the Asia-Pacific over the last two decades. This has given millions the opportunity to fly, connecting peoples and cultures like never before. Legacy full service carriers have responded vigorously to the competition, adapting their business models, and offering new products. At the same time, barriers to entry are low and we can envisage the entry of many players into what some feel is an already overcrowded market. What is the future of the airline industry? How will the air travel industry have to adjust in order to compete in the next 20 years?
Session 3 The Future Of UAVs
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are the hot-button issue for the aviation industry. While UAVs provide multiple new applications and have the potential to complement manned flights and revolutionise aviation, many remain concerned with the safety, security, and privacy implications. Which are the developments which offer the most potential? What is an appropriate balance between growth and safety? How should we manage and regulate UAVs without stifling the industry?

The Singapore Airshow Aviation Leadership Summit is jointly organised by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), Experia Events, International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Singapore Ministry of Transport (MOT). Attendance for this summit is strictly by invitation only.
